ramblings on life, love and the Boston Red Sox - not necessarily in that order...

ring day

so today is the day the rings are handed out, in front of the mfys, fittingly enough. the home opener always takes on a certain persona, but this one is different. this isn't 'is this the year?'; this is 'last year was THE year'. it's hard to imagine a ring ceremony at fenway park. who will throw out the first pitch? it's been rumored that it's tedy bruschi (from bdd, WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Are Reporting that Tedy Bruschi Will Be Among a Group Throwing Out the First Pitch at Fenway Today. Players from the Last Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots World Champion Teams are Expected to Be on the Mound)...will arod and jeter watch from the visitor's dugout, or will they conveniently be in the clubhouse with the tv off? derek lowe is coming, but alas, no pedro (outstanding game yesterday, btw). he did, however, have some nice words for his former teammates and manager: "I wish them well and I hope Tito [Francona] gets better. I hope that everything works out beautifully for them and the fans. They really earned it and they deserved it." when asked when he would get his ring, petey, our petey, replied, "I have no idea, but I'm not worried about it. I'm just glad that they're getting it, and that means that they're the champions. And I am a champion also."

so i've got chills again; imagine that. i'm recording baseball tonite and the entire game, just in case i miss any part of the ceremony. it's rare that i am more interested in the pregame ceremony than in the actual game, although it is equivalent to how i felt prior to the bball game last monday night; i was more interested in 'one shining moment' than roy williams and unc.

i wonder if this is the equivalent of an engagement ring - honestly, i would much rather have a world series ring than any diamond solitaire...

sure, we've already played three games, but at the stadium. proved all the ghosts are gone - and that we have mo's number - game 7 answered those doubts; faithful author o'nan details it well: ''it's as if the sox had walked through the stadium driving stakes through every single ghost's, vampire's and yankee fan's rotten cobwebby heart."
